Connect Multiple Mimaki USB printers
Problem/Question
When connecting several Mimaki USB printers to one Ergosoft RIP PC, connection problems might come up and the question arises
“How do I set up multiple Mimaki USB Printers to run on the same PC?"
Mimaki has no set restriction on how many printers can be set up to one USB BUS/Card.
For stability and speed reasons, we recommend to only plug one USB printer each RIP PC. If there is a need for attaching two USB printers to one RIP PC, it is strongly recommended to not plug two printers into USB ports directly next to each other, adjacent ports often share the same power supply and voltage, which in most cases is not enough to ensure stable communication for two devices.
Solution/Work-Around
When setting up the ports for the individual printers,
we recommend the following procedure in order to avoid setting the same port
for multiple devices.- Install the USB driver the manufacturer is referring to on the website
- Switch off all Mimaki USB printers
- Delete all Mimaki USB ports (from the port configuration in the Print Environment, if already set up some)
- Shut down the Ergosoft ControlCenter
- Restart the Ergosoft ControlCenter
- Switch on Mimaki USB printer 1
- Create or select a existing Print Environment for Mimaki USB printer 1
- Configer the Print Port at "Output Device"
- Add the "Mimaki USB2 Port"
- Close the Print Environment
- Switch off Mimaki USB printer 1
- Switch on Mimaki USB printer 2
- Perform the steps 7. to 10. for Mimaki USB printer 2 and 3
Note: The Mimaki USB2 port has two or more selectable ports (depending on the number of printers connected) after correct setup. These are assigned to the individual Print Environments by the procedure.
Note: Even though we are talking about Mimaki in this article, the step-by-step instruction could also work for other brands.
