SystemGuard

SystemGuard

Ergosoft RIP SystemGuard is a collection of utilities to automatically delete temporary raster data,  create backups of your Ergosoft RIP installation and settings as well as monitor disk space used by Ergosoft RIP.

Utilities and parameters that are active in SystemGuard are monitored and applied while the Ergosoft RIP Control Center is running. If the Control Center is closed when a condition for one of the utilities is met, it will be applied the next time the Control Center is started.

Cleanup

The Cleanup utility monitors temporary files of the Ergosoft RIP installation and automatically deletes them at set intervals. This ensures that not too much data is accumulated over time and that Harddisks don’t get filled up with temporary data you might not need. Of course, Cleanup is customizable, so you can specify what folders should be periodically deleted and how often.

There are 3 system folders that Cleanup can keep track of:

Temporary Files

Monitors the contents of EsRip/16/Files/Temp. This folder contains temporary files created by Ergosoft RIP during JobComposer operations such as Step&Repeat, Crop, etc. This folder can be emptied without issue as files are automatically created again by the RIP when needed.

Preflights

Monitors the contents of EsRip/16/Files/Temp. This folders contains all Preflights created by Ergosoft RIP, either manually or automatically. If you want to archive your Preflights, you might want to make sure they are saved in another location before deleting them or turn Cleanup off for Preflights.

Monitors the contents of EsRip/16/Data/Archive/PrEnv. This folder stores the backups of Print Environments that are stored when Archive Print Environment before changing is active in the Print Environment Settings. If you find yourself regularly changing your Print Environment settings and think you might need to go back to an older set of Print Environment settings, you might want to turn this off or leave a long enough timeframe to ensure you always have an appropriate backup.

To automatically delete the contents of a folder, set the Auto-Delete toggle to on and define a timeframe in the After Days column. After the specified number of days, the respective folder will automatically be emptied and all files deleted.

You can also manually empty all folders instantly by clicking the Empty all folders now... button at the bottom of the dialog.

Backups

The Backups tool in Ergosoft RIP lets you automatically create backups of your user settings. You can specify exactly what the backup should include and at what intervals the backup is created. Backups also lets you manually copy your complete user data folder to a zipped backup so all your user settings are included .

To create a backup, specify a folder location where the backup should be stored by entering the path in the text field, or by using the Browse-Icon on the top right. Make sure to select a drive with sufficient space for the files you intend to back up.

Next, set what files should be backed up by toggling the relevant files and settings under User Files, System, Production Files, and Important Color Files.

You can either create a backup right away by clicking the Create Backup button, or configure your backup to automatically be created every couple of days by activating the Checkbox Activate automatic System Backup. For the automatic backup you can configure:

Create backup After: At what intervals a backup is created. E.g. setting the Interval to 2 will create a new backup every 2 days.

Delete backup after: will automatically delete a backup after a set number of days. E.g. setting it to 10 days will delete a backup after 10 days.

Minimum limit of free disk space: Sets a minimal disk space that needs to remain free on the hard disk. This makes sure that the disk does not completely fill up with backups. If the minimum free space is reached, no new backups are created until space is freed up.

Once Activate automatic System Backup is turned on, the backup will be created every number of days you entered and include the files you specified.

You can also use the Copy Folder button to create a complete copy of your user data folder and all settings within. This is useful if you want to move an installation to a different computer or restore an installation with all the exact same settings as before.

The Backup is created as a .zip file containing the specified folders and named after the date it was created. To restore your data from a backup, you can copy the contents of the backup to your User Data Folder (Default path C:\Users\Public\Documents\EsRip\16) and overwrite any existing files. This will return all settings to the state of the backup (Files that have not been backed up will of course not be overwritten and remain as they were).

Discspace Observer

The Diskspace Observer utility monitors all local drives on the computer for how much free space they have available. It can be configured to show a warning when a threshold of minimum free space is reached. This is especially useful for the drives where you store your temporary raster files, as it helps ensure that your print jobs don’t fail due to lack of space.

Drive designates the drive that the information is for.

Free Space shows how much space is currently available on the drive.

Warning Treshold sets at what amount of free space the warning should be displayed.

Show warning toggles the warning on or off for this drive.

Note that Discspace Observer will not prevent any new data from being written, it will only display a warning when the Warning Threshold is reached. If the warning is ignored, the hard disk may still fill up and print jobs may abort due to lack of space.
